As the seasons turn from winter to spring, and spring to summer, the time for barbecues grilling has arrived. This means that your restaurant’s patrons are going to be in the mood for protein options with the flavors and zest they associate with summer, and Native Maine Produce & Specialty Foods can help you deliver on those expectations.

Whether you’re looking for some classic favorites, or want to try a new protein option for the new season, we have over 3,000 unique food products and are excited to be able to provide your restaurant with the highest quality protein options from Maine and around the globe. If you need a place to get started, here are three of our most popular protein options!

Boneless Pork Butt

As misleading as its name may be, pork butt is a cut of meat from the shoulder of the pig. Unlike pork shoulder, however, pork butt is from higher on the foreleg. Both pork butt and shoulder are “relatively tough and fatty cuts,” according to Cook’s Illustrated, and “both benefit from long, slow cooking methods such as roasting, stewing, and braising.”

While pork shoulder is similar to pork butt, the differences are notable enough that most people tend to prefer the bone pork butt option. The improved flavor, according to The Spruce Eats, “is due to the fact that the meat is derived from a hard-working section of the body: Carrying around all that hog weight exercises that section and as a result, it develops great flavor.”

Here at Native Maine, we have an excellent two-pack offering of boneless pork butts that our customers love. We can also make a special order for a master case of 8, which is 8x8 pieces of our customer favorite boneless pork butt.

100% Chuck Ground Beef

Chuck ground beef, like pork butt, is cut from the shoulder, meaning that “it contains enough fat to add flavor and juiciness and is a good choice for hamburgers.” Since your menu wouldn’t feel right without some good hamburgers, making sure you have 100% chuck ground beef is an absolute must.

When you order from Native Maine, you can be confident that you’ll be receiving ground beef that is 80/20, which means you’ll be working with beef that is 80% lean and 20% fat. This ratio ensures maximum flavor and makes your protein ideal for both slow-cooking and grilling purposes.

Pineland Farms Hot Dogs

If your diners are looking for seasonal protein favorites, then it won’t take them long to think about hot dogs. While anyone can buy a cheap pack of hot dogs from a supermarket, few outlets (or restaurants) can offer their customers the kind of natural casing and uncured beef hot dogs that Pineland Farms can.

Pineland Farms and Native Maine work together to make sure that your diners have access to the best and tastiest hot dogs available. With our flexible deliveries and competitive prices, and Pineland’s excellent protein offerings, we’re able to provide our customers with 4x25-count cases of Pineland hot dogs that are sure to delight your patrons, regardless of the season.
